I get it. I'm doing my best not to borrow future grief. On days when it's hard, I clean my dog's hairbrush and leave a little pompom of fluff for the nesting birds.
Not so long ago I found myself questioning my habits and how normal it is to let your home succumb to a synthetic state of dirtiness: a leaf of cilantro sticking on the floor, the stove returning to what now seems to be its ingrained form of staining, and, like you do, I welcome the pets on my scalp, and build a nourishing environment for them to grow and multiply, as they might be the only pieces of life I would be able to call my children. The plight we reach as sentimental beings is just a quiet reminder of our animality. We shed and we liquefy, then act thickened and stiffened,
pretending the former is an act of monkeys, convincing each other we are far from being one.
I recently told a friend my room was dusty. She said that’s my dead skin. Ok then.. I too can live with that for a little while. There’s no one to impress. I’m glad I don’t own a microscope though!
